Travel documents
What you need to carry, and what we check before you board.
You are responsible for holding the documents your destination requires. We check them at the airport because an airline that carries a passenger without valid documentation is required to fly them home again — which helps nobody.
For domestic flights within Malawi, any government-issued photo identification is enough. For international sectors you need a passport valid for at least six months beyond your date of entry, with at least two blank pages.
Visa requirements depend on your nationality and your destination. Malawi offers visa-on-arrival to many nationalities, but neighbouring countries differ considerably, and rules change. Always confirm with the destination country's own immigration authority rather than relying on a third-party summary.
Children need their own passport on international sectors, whatever their age. Where a child travels with only one parent, some countries ask for a consent letter from the other — check before you travel.
If your name changed after your document was issued, carry the certificate that evidences it. The name on your booking must match the document exactly.
